It finally dawned on me that what I need, and what I’ve needed for a little while now, is a fresh perspective. For 4 and a half months, I have thought of nothing but Million Dollar Wiki. Talking to bloggers, registering pages, researching SEO, trying to get in touch with Google as to why they pulled my site as the first result for a search query “Million Dollar Wiki”, hiring a publicist, etc. A “burnout” phenomenon occurs for me, where I am unable to innovate and think in the way I need to because, well, I’ve just thought it out (just like you play out a song).
My publicist was optimistic at the time that Million Dollar Wiki would be able to get some great press. Wired Magazine, Entrepreneur, Forbes Small Business. I was counting my chickens, and banking on her pulling through. In fact, if she can still land amazing press, I’m locked into a contractual obligation for a minimum 10k spend. For that kind of press almost any price is worth it, so I hope she can pull it off.
The truth is, I’m not sure exactly what will make Million Dollar Wiki work moving forward. I know there is an answer out there, I just need to find it. I’ve never been afraid to experiment, and I’m sure there is some strategy or some move I can make to get things rolling. The unfortunate reality of buzz marketing, a lesson I am learning the hard way, is that once the buzz dies, the buzz is dead.
There are some hopefuls. The Free Samples page managed to rack in 2,000 unique visitors the other day from Stumble Upon! I don’t know how she did it, but a ton of people must have stumbled the Free Samples page. Congrats, I’m sure she earned some decent revenue from all that traffic. She might be able to teach us all a lesson or two as well
So getting back to the topic at hand, I need a fresh perspective. For the past two weeks, I’ve been getting my mind off wiki in hopes that I would get a fresh perspective when I put my mind back on it. I have this thing about working on projects, sometimes I float from one to another just to keep my mind sharp and thinking in new and different ways about things.
Truth be told, I own six properties around the internet. Sometimes I get an idea for something, and I can’t stop myself from just doing it. I’m sure the serial entrepreneurs out there know exactly what I’m talking about. It’s the way I started MillionDollarWiki, and its the way I started the site that spawned MillionDollarWiki, Associary.com (which I also dreamed up and created). Associary.com is a wiki like Million Dollar Wiki, only you write the first thing that comes to your mind for any given word, instead of owning it.
So where am I going with all this? Well, in the last three weeks or so while I’ve been waiting around for my publicist to call me up and say, Ok Graham, you need to go to New York City today, to this address, to be interviewed by this newspaper,” I had another idea. It’s something that I am very excited to share with you all, something I think will make your internet endeavors and goals a little easier to achieve. This is a tool that will help you all. And while I am thrilled to announce it to all Million Dollar Wiki page owners, I am equally thrilled to announce it to the rest of the internet community.
But it is not quite ready yet. Stay tuned.

I Look forward to what comes next.
At least you can say one of your ideas took off, at least you don’t have to wake up at 6:00am and head back to another day of hard labour work just dreaming of making it rich off the internet… one day I will be the same
I am the same way, an internet dreamer if you will. Have about 50 ideas though all on paper, some designed and mocked up, just no programmer or programming skills to make it all work
A fresh perspective usually helps to solve all problems. Glad to hear you are brainstorming
One idea I have is that it might be effective to try to establish some collaborations in marketing the Wiki with other publications. I’m not sure exactly what this would entail, but right now you’ve got a nice little community here popping around and checking on each others pages. Some kind of collaboration between the wiki and other communities online might help build exposure for both entities and make it a win/win.
BlogAdervertising, you are right on.
We do have some active community members.
If Graham could figure a way to help everyone network better on MDW - maybe there is something that will help everyone promote the site and make it more worth while to the visitor.
I agree with both iG and BA. I appreciate Graham’s honesty in burnout but reputations will be made with the MDW. While 100k is a huge accomplishment, more was expected for clients’ the investment.
We’ll see what happens with the new project. I see pictures are up on another blog…
Graham,
I noticed you in the picture with John Chow at Blogworld. What is Entracard?
Oops….mispelled. What is Entrecard?
Entrecard.com is a way for bloggers to create a digital business card and exchange it through each others blogs. Check out the video. It’s the project I’ve been working on the last three weeks while trying to figure out what exactly I need to do with Million Dollar Wiki.
Gonna give entrecard a go on my blog.
Also, my .02 on MDW is that you need to give your pageowners more exposure. Once the novelty has worn off, and it has, there has to be more to it than just buying a page and hoping someone finds it because it’s on the MDW. Shoot me an email if you are interested and I will share some ideas. I don’t want to reveal them here.
