Is the resale page free of commission?

Nope, as stated from the beginning its a 15% commission. Part of the business model from the start to make this a viable business into the future was taking that commission.

However, I want to make it valuable for everyone, so I’ll only be taking the commission on sales over $115 so no one is losing money on the deal.

Fair?

In hindsight I think it would have been a better idea to let people sell their pages during a peak in traffic/popularity…it might’ve hurt MDW’s pocket a tad but it would’ve kept the buzz going and it would’ve trasnferred stagnant pages to ready to build buyers.

Are there any other publicity plans or is it over?

Yeah, I was just talking about this with a friend yesterday. In hindsight, it definitely would have been better to allow people to resell their pages from the beggining.

It isn’t over though. I am considering a number of “phase 2 initiatives”… might be a month or two down the road though. I need to think about other things for a little while so that I can return to MDW with a fresh perspective.

I have hired a publicist. Actually, I hired her about a month ago, with a contractual spend of $10,000 if she can successfully pitch my story to outlets like Wired, Entreprenur, Wall Street Journal, etc. So far she has been unsuccessful, but remains confident we’ll get into Entrepreneur.

very cool to hear that update. If I were you I’d also redo the homepage to make it really exciting for new prospective page owners. Flaunt the fact that not only were you the first but well ahead of the rest and going into 2008 MDW will be the talk of the net! Still keep things kind of simple though but have an exciting hook right from the homepage and maybe a (read/find out more) link to another page further expanding on Wiki’s future goals. Make that emotional connection. List it’s milestones, etc.

Then I’d possibly open a Google AdWords account and use keywords like entrepreneur, make money online, start-up, franchising, etc.

…to add a few bits to my above-mentioned plan. If you offer Google a CPC of lets say $0.10 for each incoming click. for a $500 initial budget you should bring in approx. 5000 new interested visitors. If the homepage is set up enticingly enough (and that second “sales page” has a link to the buy page) and you convince even say 0.25% of incoming visitors to buy just one page.

Even with a 10% discount to further entice, you’re looking at about $1200 or a $700 profit…which isn’t ridiculous but think of the people that might want to re-buy pages and the continued steady flow of traffic and buzz.

A final note. The “reselling guidelines” page should probably be updated a little bit.
